The 2nd annual Eid al-Fitr celebration organized by the Azerbaijan Center kicked off this Friday, July 17th 2015 at the Goldberg B’nai B’rith Senior Housing in Houston, TX.
Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
Mrs. Irada Akhoundova, CEO of the Azerbaijan Center opened the festivities with greeting remarks addressed to all participants. Attendees included residents of the Goldberg House, an international community with many of them born and raised in Baku, as well as members of the Azerbaijani community who generously volunteered their time to help with logistics at the event.
Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Kamran Taghiyev, Azerbaijani community member and Dr. Agadadash Kuliyev MD from Town and Country Internal Medicine, PA., attendees were served a flavorful dinner and desserts.
With a live music performance, Mr. Ali Hasghshenas made all attendees travel as the sounds of his garmon filled the room with sounds of our far away land.
Attendees expressed their excitement and curiosity for the opportunity to listen to live Azerbaijani music and tickle their taste buds with flavors of Azerbaijani cuisine and hear more insights about Eid al-Fitr and Azerbaijan overall.
This annual celebration illustrates the continuous efforts of the Azerbaijan Center to showcase diversity and share Azerbaijan’s rich culture and values with the international community.
The Azerbaijan Center would like to express its sincere gratitude to all volunteers present, sponsors and attendees for making this event possible and successful. You are the reason why we exist! Thank you!
